How a perfect AFL season works
Every round spins up one era and lays out the players who actually played it, real season statistics on every card. You fill the ruck, the midfield, the forwards and the defenders. Then the year plays out round by round, era-fair ratings driving the scoreboard, until you drop one. Win all 23 home-and-away games and the three finals and the board reads a perfect 26-0.
Do AFL sides actually go undefeated?
Not once, through a complete season. Collingwood swept the 1929 home-and-away season 18-0 and won the flag, but lost a final along the way. The best full-season record belongs to Essendon in 2000 at 24-1. A clean 26-0, home-and-away plus the finals, is the bar this game sets.
